Bank of Montreal was founded in 1817 and is Canada's oldest bank. The company was founded by 10 individuals and was initially name Montreal Bank. Commonly referred to as BMO Bank of Montreal or just BMO, the bank is currently Canada's fifth largest bank by deposits. It is into retail banking, insurance, and operates two divisions into wealth management and investment banking. BMO Bank of Montreal operates over 900 bank branches within Canada and more than 1,100 offices worldwide. It also has existing operations in the United States where it operates in Chicago as Harris Bank and several countries around the world. Bank of Montreal is amongst the first financial institutions to issue credit cards based on the Master Card PayPass technology. The company introduced PayPass into its line of Mosaik credit cards issued after November 2007.
