The Delta miles can then be exchanged for airline tickets and used to fly to over 550 destinations worldwide. The card is available to Canadian residents only and requires a good to excellent credit score.
Earn Delta Miles As You Spend
Capital One Canada, in partnership with Delta Airlines, offers the Delta Skymiles World MasterCard, an unsecured credit card with an attractive rewards program to suit frequent fliers. Cardholders can earn Delta miles on everything they buy, which can then be redeemed for airline tickets from Delta, or against products and services from Delta Partners, including Delta SkyTeam and associated hotel accommodation and car rental providers.
A substantial number of Delta miles are awarded on making the first purchase using the card, with additional bonus Delta miles awarded on the account anniversary each year. Delta miles are awarded per dollar spent on all purchases, but they can be accrued at a higher rate when the card is used to purchase Delta products and services.
The Delta miles can be exchanged for airline tickets to travel to over 550 locations in more than 100 countries across the globe. Delta miles can be earned and redeemed with SkyTeam member airlines, including, Aeroflot, AeroMexico, AirEuropa, AirFrance, KLM, Alitalia, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta, Kenya Airways, Korean Air, Tarom, and Vietnam Airlines.
Adding Additional Authorized Users
In order to earn Delta miles even faster by adding an additional authorized cardholder to the account. An additional Delta miles bonus is added to the card account when an additional users is added. Delta miles are also earned on all purchases made by the additional cardholder. Each additional card user is subject to an annual fee which is approximately half the annual fee charged for the primary cardholder. The account does carry a fairly high annual fee so it is important to weigh up whether or not the benefits offered by the card are worth the cost of the annual fees.
Additional Features and Benefits
The Delta Skymiles World MasterCard comes with a range of benefits and features you would expect to find on most high end credit cards. These benefits include price protection, purchase assurance, extended warranty and a concierge service. The price protection benefit is a particularly useful feature which refunds the price difference to the cardholder in the event of a purchase being advertised at a lower price within sixty days of the original purchase.
However, it also offers MasterCard Premium World travel benefits. Cardholders can enjoy benefits such as Travel Emergency Medical which provides emergency medical cover anywhere in the world. It also covers the cardholder's spouse and dependent children. Cardholders are also covered for trip cancellation, trip interruption, flight interruption, baggage loss or delay, accident insurance and MasterAssist Travel Assistance which provides round the clock assistance for a variety of emergency situations. The card also carries standard MasterCard benefits such as zero fraud liability and Master RoadAssist service.
Some Drawbacks of the Card
The main drawback of the Delta Skymiles World MasterCard is that, as is the case with many airmiles reward schemes, there can be some issues with the availability if rewards, especially for the lowest redemption levels. However, unlike many competing airline reward programs, rewards can be redeemed against business and first class seats which does increase availability somewhat. In addition to this, the rewards cannot be used towards additional fees and taxes. The card also carries a fairly high annual fee and an additional annual fee for each additional authorized cardholder.
The Delta SkyMiles World MasterCard issued by Capital One is an attractive card to frequent travelers. The introductory bonus miles are generous as is the annual anniversary bonus. The inclusion of additional travel benefits is also an attractive feature to regular globetrotters as is the fact that Capital One does not charge foreign transaction fees on their credit cards. The card carries zero liability fraud protection and includes price protection cover and price assurance on all purchases.
